Today is the opening of the 2013 Sydney Quilt Show at Darling Harbour. First and foremost, the show is a members’ exhibition. It’s an opportunity for quilters to share their work and put their creations out there. Not every entry is a masterpiece but that is part if the show’s charm. We can all admire the technically precise entries but sometimes the perfection can be intimidating. Instead, we often find inspiration in the layout or the colour scheme or some other element of more modest entries.
This is my 10th consecutive year of entering the Sydney Quilt Show. You can see my Dreamlines#5 – Allagai Waves in the main show and Budgies Uncaged in the touring AQC challenge.
Congratulations to all of the prize winners that will be announced at 11am. Look out on the Guild website tomorrow for images.

Hi Brenda- I am so glad to see you say it’s a members exhibition and that not all entries are masterpieces- it is one of of my challenges at Geelong to convince all members to put in their work and show visitors what we do for our exhibition later this year- be it a simple nine patch, the inchiest winciest hexagons or an art quilt- it all has a place and we should be proud of the work of our hands, it’s a dwindling art!It is part of belonging to a group- and if your penchant is art quilts there are organisations for that also- but the support and friendship within a group is important no matter your skill, level of expertise or preferred genre.

I see members’ exhibitions as all about celebration and they are richer for showing a full spectrum of work.
