Bed Quilts

More thoughts on Bali Batiks

4 July 2006 Filed Under: Bed Quilts, Contemporary Quilts, Technique:Design 2 Comments

As Helen has commented, highly patterned or multi-coloured bali batik fabrics can be challenging to work with. Like many large scale prints that do not “read” as a single value, batik patterns can be just too busy particularly in complex quilt designs. But wild patterns can be tamed to good effect in simple, large pieced […]

My Bali Love Affair

3 July 2006 Filed Under: Bed Quilts 2 Comments

I’ve never been to Bali but I do enjoy working with fabrics that share the same name. My love affair started when I decided to make this Karen Stone hibiscus quilt design for my my sister Chantel: As my sister Amy will testify, I traipsed all over the [State] Victorian countryside, in my quest for […]

Dunedin Dreaming

2 July 2006 Filed Under: Bed Quilts 3 Comments

There is a discussion about college/university quilts on one of the lists that I belong to so I thought that I would share some pictures of a quilt that I made for my youngest sister Delia. She is studying at the University of Otago in Dunedin in the chilly south of the South Island of […]

Synchronicity

25 June 2006 Filed Under: Bed Quilts, Published Projects 5 Comments

I knew that my Synchronicity quilt was going to feature as a project in Down Under Quilts but I had forgotten that it would be so soon! and I certainly didn’t know that it was destined to be a small inset on the cover: It’s always a thrill to see one of my quilts published […]

In Favour of Bed Quilts

23 March 2006 Filed Under: Bed Quilts, Contemporary Quilts 2 Comments

I’ve just been preparing the guest room for friends that are coming on the weekend and I’m afraid that there is no quilt on the guest bed. Yes there is a doona (does anyone outside Australia use this term?!) with a Ken Done cover with bright parrots. It suits the space very well and seems […]

Back in my Studio…

24 January 2006 Filed Under: Bed Quilts, Teaching Leave a Comment

I had a great time in America but I am very happy to be back home in my studio. It hasn’t been the most beachy weather so I have been sewing up a storm. Alas, my trusty sewing machine developed an ominous clunking noise so has been whisked off to be serviced. Here is where […]

My first full day in Marrakech was completed by a 3 hour food tour. A multi-sensory experience meandering through the medina. And, yes, I did get a teensy bit lost making my way back to the riad afterwards… @moroccanfoodadventures

My short time in Marrakech began with pouring rain and ended with a glorious sunset from a rooftop bar overlooking Koutoubia mosque against a backdrop of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. 🌴🌅
