A new ATC in my collection

“Stephanie from Perth”* traversed the country to join her friends at the Sydney Quilt Show. At the Gala dinner she shared an array of Artist Trading Cards inspired by her trip to Broome. Even better, I got to take one home and here it is on my wall along with postcards, ATCs and ACEOs from… Read More →

Ladybird, ladybug

I’ve finished Sasha’s wall hanging, including the zig zag edging. Now, do you call this a ladybird or a ladybug? In this linguistically diverse household, I say ladybird and the Laundry King looks at me blankly.

An Aunt’s Prerogative

Inspired by fellow “Twelve” Terri Stegmiller’s book Creative Paper Quilts, I’ve been experimenting with making fabric-backed paper. This is my own design for my niece’s room. I need to do the stitching and may add some flowers but you get the general idea.

Finishing Off

With Quilt Camp coming up next month, it is certainly time to finish off some projects from my workshop with Susan Mathews last year. I used Terry Grant’s fine satin stitch/zig zag finishing technique on this postcard. Although my edges are still are little shaggy, this is a gazillion times tidier than some of my… Read More →

Postcards from Quilt Camp

Here are some things that I worked on at Quilt Camp in my Sumptuous Surfaces workshop with Susan Mathews:    The cross needs more stitching and the tree postcard needs edging. I’ll probably slice the striped piece up for Artist Trading Cards and add some applique shapes.

Here is just a small sample: I haven’t made many ATCs partly because I don’t enjoy working in such a small scale and partly because I get dissatisfied about the finish I achieve. My satin stitch edging invariably ends up uneven, shaggy and… Read More →

A Little Festive Cheer

There is a festive ATC (artist trading card) swap at tomorrow’s guild meeting. I don’t tend to make ATCs or textile postcards as I prefer to work on a bigger scale and am not much into embellishment. That said, I whipped up this ATC before breakfast this morning and found it quite fun: And here… Read More →

Playing Around

I thought I should do some more ATCs for the swap this Saturday: The Copacabana waves proved to be a great opportunity to try out the braiding (couching) foot that I bought 18 months ago on a creative impulse. I also made this “Earthlines” postcard from some experimental piecing that I had lying around: All… Read More →

I surrender!

To date I have steadfastly resisted the current craze for quilted postcards and artist trading cards. Partly because I’ve never been a particularly trendy person and partly because I don’t have much aptitude for embellishment (quilted or otherwise!). And so it was rather rash of me to agree to participate in my guild’s forthcoming ATC… Read More →
