Once upon a time, in what seems like a very long time ago, I belonged to a handful of fabric clubs. Every few weeks I would receive a squishy package in the mail containing a bundle of five inch charm squares featuring the latest fabric ranges available in Australia. Consequently, I now have a modest collection of fabric squares calling to be made into scrap quilts.
I have at least three books bursting with great scrap quilt suggestions. The first two are written by Australian quiltmakers & designers and the third is even appropriately subtitled “Great Designs from 5 inch Scraps”:
However, all of these designs involve cutting the squares into smaller pieces and I would rather direct my energy to more contemporary projects. Accordingly, in the spirit of stash reducing, here is the latest quilt on my design wall – squares rule!

good luck on the stash reduction!!
I once sat and made 5 log cabin quilts thinking it would slim my stash, it was quite relaxing sewing them (not having to think too hard about them), but I can’t even see where I took the fabric from!

I love scrap quilts of squares, but I always feel guilty if I do a quilt of just squares. But sometimes thats all it needs. yes Squares Rule… AUBIRDWOMAN

I love squares too. Simple shapes are beautiful.
But I also have the spetacular scraps book and it is a wonderful book. It helped me to reduce my stash a lot.

I made my first two quilts from the Nickels book – I had to order so many squares packs to get the colours and vaules I wanted I still have a stockpile! Plus I found that not all of them were exactly 5 inches square which caused problems. I too am a great adherent of the ‘oh just sew it all togther’ school of quilting!
