Labours of Love & Evolution, Change, Challenge

1 September, the first day of spring, with glorious sunshine and sweet perfume in the air.  A perfect day to join my friend Erica for an excursion to Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre to take in the two quilt exhibitions: Labours of Love: Australian Quilts 1845-2015 and Evolution, Change, Challenge: A Contemporary Quilt. No […]

Last week I was one of three judges of the Victorian Quilters annual members’ exhibition – Quilt Showcase. Protocol means that I will refrain from commenting on individual quilts but here are some links for you to look at: Quilt Showcase 2011 Prize Winners slideshow (6MB PDF); and Blog post and images by Desley Maisano […]

Stepping Out with Quilters Companion 49

It is the 10th anniversary of Quilters Companion magazine and inside Issue #49 you will find my classic quilt project Stepping Out. Based on a Victorian floor tile design, Stepping Out escapes from black and white into the glorious colour of Kaffe Fassett prints. I confess that I do not have any photos of the […]

Yesterday afternoon a photographer from the local newspaper came to photograph me at work in my studio for an article to promote the upcoming Sydney Quilt Show. It was pouring with rain so beach shot were a washout. Fortunately there was plenty of colour on the design wall and loose blocks that I could play […]

An Economy Patch

Next month will mark my 10th anniversary of taking up quilting (if you leave out my very first quilt that I made when I was at university). From the very beginning, I seemed to purchase more fabric than was strictly required. My first three cot quilts were made from the same fabrics in a valiant […]

Join me for my new TEXTplosion! workshop at the Modern Quilt Show Australia from 9.45am-12.45pm on Saturday 14 March 2026 in Petersham Sydney. Book online on the MQSA wesbite via @modernquiltshowau

✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂

This 3-hour workshop explores harnessing the power of paper collage to design one-of-a-kind abstract quilts. This workshop explores: fragmenting text; tools to isolate and highlight areas of interest; playing with enlargement, exaggeration and distortion; converting 2-tone designs into colour; converting paper collage designs into fabric compositions; and digital palette generation tools.

When I was invited to teach a four-day workshop at the Australasian Quilt Convention (9-12 April 2026), I jumped a the opportunity to share a deep dive into one of my favourite subjects - abstract design. In “Riffing with Repetition”, we will be exploring how repetition contributes to unity and rhythm and makes our work sing. Whether you are liking to loosen up, think differently or stretch you creative muscles, this workshop will spark new ideas and help you find your rhythm using your preferred techniques and materials.

Bookings are now online at www.AQC.com.au
