I have to admit that, when my neighbour mentioned that her sister had some surplus fabrics for me, I had visions of sewing scraps that might come in handy with the Gees Bend challenge that I am doing. How wrong I was. Last night Marge turned up in my studio with a grocery bag containing this:
Thirty or so boxes from Liberty of London each containing fifty 1 1/2in hexagons that Edna has already tacked to the precision cut papers. But wait, there’s more – a couple of boxes of 2in fabric squares, some of which have been tacked and even made into blocks:
Being the great detective that I am, I deduce that Edna ran out of steam after tacking the 1500+ hexagons (only four different fabrics and, alas, not many of the black background ones):
and playing with squares that she had tacked (slightly more variety here):
And who hasn’t been there sometime or other?
If I was more savvy, I would put the lot on e-bay and buy Edna a birthday present with the proceeds. She turned 89 yesterday and has been feeling a little out of sorts since breaking her hip in an unfortunate onboard bus accident late last year. ( I don’t know how long ago she bought these supplies but one box alone is marked $15 and another is marked $8.95.) However, I am an e-bay novice and don’t need another diversion. Instead, Edna and I would be thrilled if someone would rescue this UFO and turn it into something beautiful. All I ask is that you cover the cost of postage (the boxes are not very heavy) and that you truly, madly LOVE English paper piecing (and not simply onsell it yourself). If you can meet this test, e-mail me now! I will put the names of all takers into a hat and get Marge to pull out the lucky winner tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.
In case you are wondering, I have made my one and only hexagon quilt – Quaking Aspens:

Hi Brenda,
Just read my email (after three days of being too busy to check them) what a wonderful find for you and how lucky is Susan to have been picked out to receive this treasure. Your “Quaking Aspens” is looking great. I am currently working on a WIP of a blue and cream hexagon quilt. My fabric and papers have been precision cut by “The Quilt Fairy” and I am calling it my “10 to 20 year quilt” as I think thats how long it will take me to make it.
