Dreamlines #2 is complete (apart from handstitching the facing).
It’s been so interesting to read your comments on my layout audition images. As you can see, I decided to proceed with the first layout with the concentration of blues and reds on the right-hand side. My decision was influenced by a factor I did not share with you – the furnishings in my friend’s lounge room (a blue sofa with matching chairs and a Turkish rug with reds and dusky pinks). With this in mind, I dismissed the more pronounced stripes of the other layouts in favour of a more blended gradation. Now I fear the piece is too small for the position I had contemplated. Sigh.
I finished the quilt using a combination of facing techniques referred to in my listing of tutorials for Alternative Quilt Finishes. I took some photos along the way and will post a new tutorial later this week.
In the meantime, if you are looking for a 2009 calendar with a textile theme, check out the blog of the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project and download a 1 page calendar featuring our latest Mathematics themed quilts.

This is lovely! The quilting adds just the right amount of depth. I really like the way the strips just left & right of center play off each other (the yellow with the purple rectangles and the purple with the green rectangles).

This was a very intersting exercise. None of the layouts are actually bad–the constitutent parts being so appealing, but your final decision really clicks. Adding the wall color was inspired. It’s quite close to the color of my living room which gives me ideas…
