Call for Entries: closing 15 October 2023
The Lions Club of Quilters Victoria is calling for entries for the Lions Club International Quilt Challenge: Our World Coming Together. The club is keen to see all countries represented. Wherever you live in the world, you are invited to join this quilt challenge reflecting natural, man-made, cultural or historical representations of your country and community.
All quilts received will be assigned to a permanent and historic collection curated and held by the Australian Quilt & Textile Collection and will feature in an online gallery. Up to 192 entries will be exhibited at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Melbourne 2024 and the Pour l’Amour du Fil in Nantes, France in 2025. Other venues are under investigation.
In addition to a catalogue, a comprehensive program of PR and advertising is proposed including installations throughout the arrivals concourse at Melbourne International Airport, as well as billboard images on the freeway entry route into Melbourne CBD. Your quilt image could be showcased in this public arena.
This non-juried challenge is open to all skill levels and any techniques; finished size: 40cm x 40cm; three layers stitched together. It’s over a year until entries close on 15 October 2023. All entries must arrive in Australia by 30 November 2023. Early entries are very much encouraged. Australian entrants of the first 150 quilts arriving by 30 January will be eligible for a surprise gift.
For the entry form and other information, see Lions Clubs International Quilt Challenge.
Spring-loaded
My donation Spring-loaded is an abstraction from the natural world:
The tightly compressed scales of a norfolk pine cone resemble a botanical hand grenade, later bursting open and spreading far and wide.
Spring-loaded (40x40cm) Brenda Gael Smith
I created an on-point grid using hand-dyed fabrics. Intensive stitching with variegated threads completely transformed the surface of the work. I love it when everything comes together!
