THANK YOU! to everyone who participated in my Creative Backstory Celebratory Giveaway by leaving a comment here on my or on my Serendipity Facebook page or using the tag #creativebackstory on Instagram. It’s been an interesting exercise for me to review the past 20 years or so and to think about where I am heading. As Steve Jobs once said:
You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.
The point is that you have to start by trying things. Lots of things. Sometimes you will succeed. Sometimes you will fall short. Always there is the opportunity to learn from that experience. Get started. Keep going. Trust yourself!
By random selection, I selected the following remark by Christine Weatherson which has a similar sentiment:
Just want to say how much I am enjoying and appreciate your sharing of your journey Brenda. The curated view of life that social media presents, disguises the progression, hard work and missteps that finding one’s visual voice actually takes. It’s good to know that those artists whose work I admire today started out just like me–at the beginning of the journey, and often with a baby quilt. Thanks again!
So this King Parrot textile sketch will be winging its way to the United States.

HI Brenda,
I just love your work!
When I first came across your book “Copa Abstractions”, I was absolutely mesmerised. Went through it so many times. Your techniques just resonated with me.
I am very interested in Australian flora. I grow many native plants in my garden. Have taken literally hundreds of photos of trees, flowers, textures, shrubs etc when travelling, as well as those in my own garden. As I went through “Copa”, I jotted down what I would make for each entry of yours. ( As I live in inland Australia, there wouldn’t be any coastal scenes of subjects!). I was wrapped in the whole idea.
Then, somehow or other, that copy, complete with my notes, just disappeared. I have a feeling it accidentally went out with the paper recycling!
I have since acquired another copy from you, but haven’t as yet got back to do a new list!
Hope to see more of your work, and would love the chance to do a class with you one day.
Thanks so much for your inspiration, and for sharing your lovely, unique work.
ps, Your “King Parrot” is wonderful. Of course!!
