Entries for Vision 2020, my next travelling textile art exhibition, closed at midnight on Friday 10 January 2020. As with my previous exhibitions (see related posts below), my goal is to be transparent and insightful about the selection process whilst respecting the confidentiality of the entrants. I will present a more detailed analysis after I have completed my review of the entries and selected the exhibition works. In the meantime, here is a preliminary view of some statistics.
100 Entrants: 107 Entries
THANK YOU to Expertise Events and others for helping to promote the call for entries. And THANK YOU to the 100 artists who, together, submitted 107 artworks for consideration. I am mindful that the early 10 January closing date, straight after the holidays, is challenging at the best of times but especially for Australian artists in this summer of nerve-wracking bush fires. Here at Copacabana, we are a safe distance from the fire-front but we have experienced persistent smoke and ash which permeates the air. The grim outlook has certainly affected my creative mojo but it is nothing compared to those whose homes and communities are directly impacted by the fires. I am grateful to all that managed to get their entries in and understand that many had more important priorities.
The first set of infographics tracks the volume of entries over time. The second set of infographics shows a breakdown by country and region. Overall the statistical profile is broadly the same as a matter of time (2016-2017) and reflects an equilibrium following the exceptional participation in Living Colour (2014-2015).

Wonder of Eyes: Call for Entries Closes 20 February
More key statistics will follow after I have completed the selection process. Meanwhile, if you missed the deadline for Vision 2020, I invite you to participate in the Wonder of Eyes: Eyes of Wonder textile exhibition, (optional) art exchange and fundraiser for The Fred Hollows Foundation. The size is a manageable 20x20cm (8x8in) and entries close on 20 February 2020. ALL complying entries will be exhibited at the Australasian Quilt Convention 16-19 April 2020 and there is a Viewers Choice award of $200 sponsored by Expertise Events.
