My creative challenge for 2018 is Taking Shape: Cues from Nature where I make a 50x50cm abstract textile painting with a focus on shape. November brings jacaranda blooms and, after wind and rain, a carpet of mishapen flowers:
My preliminary sketches on my iPad were too literal. I needed to zoom in and revel in the positive and negative space.I auditioned various colour combinations but proceeded with jacaranda blue flowers on a lime background. I showed it to the Laundry King and he thought is was a spaceship. Cool – as Roberta Smith via Jerry Saltz 33 Rules for Being An Artist reminds us, artists do not own the meaning of their work.
The work is complemented by intensive straight line and zig zag stitching.

The color use is breathtaking in all of your pieces. I love the texture zigzag stitching gives to this work. You are courageous and inspiring!
