What a buzz to to be an instructor at the Pacific International Quilt Festival 2018. THANK YOU! to everyone who joined my in my lecture or one of my three classes.
The workshop venue was a meeting room at a convention centre with soft, soundproofing walls ideal for pinning quilts and design walls. Sewing machines were provided by Elna and we had a productive time. I was so engrossed that I did not take many photos, nor capture everyone’s compositions, but this gives you an overview in case you could not join the Show and Tell on Saturday evening.
My teaching focus is on improvisational piecing, striking designs and the effective use of colour. My goal is to promote fun and encourage the creative confidence of my students. I regularly travel to the San Francisco Bay are to visit family and can always squeeze some extra quilts in my suitcase. E-mail me to book me for workshops or program.
In the Strata Various workshop, we step through a serious of design decisions to create individual strata fabrics. Then we mix it up with cutting, slashing, insertions and other deconstruction and improvisational techniques. My students chose a variety of approaches.
At lunchtime, Sara ventured out into the merchant aisles and picked up five fat quarters for $8 and started on her variation of Wavy Baby. The next morning, she showed me her completed quilt top.

Serendipity Circles is my most popular workshop. Everyone learns freeform piecing and fusing techniques for creating a variety of circular designs before making their own project. (In the two-day class, we also get into stitching and quilting techniques.)
