There is something reassuring about the patterns and rhythms of life, season after season. It’s June – the time of year that I spend a lot of time gazing out over Allagai Bay, binoculars at the ready. I am no David Attenborough but here’s video evidence of the spectacle of migrating humpback whales.
And even when the whales are submerged, the patterns on the surface of the water are mesmerising.
On this winter solstice, I am thrilled to report that my artwork Seachange: Whale Tracks has been juried into the Studio Art Quilts Associates* global exhibition Season After Season that will premiere at the Texas Quilt Museum La Grange, Texas in January 2019 and tour through to 2022.
The announcement came early and before I had an opportunity to complete my series of blog posts on creating my work. I will roll out these posts as I compile my journal to accompany the exhibit. In the meantime, here’s an image of the completed work that measures 185x79cm (73x31in) along with a detail shot. There are also various work-in-progress photos over on my Instagram account with the tag #whaletracks.
