Surprise, surprise – I went to Paducah and came home with fabric! One of my first stops was Hancocks of Paducah, an immense emporium of fabric and quilting notions. I didn’t venture very far in, I might have gotten lost otherwise. I had a specific quest for Kona cotton solids for my classes and found an overflowing remnant basket that met this need perfectly. The day we visited was relatively calm. I gather the place was mobbed for the rest of the week!
I cruised the aisles at the show but nothing especially jumped out to me apart from the M&S Textiles stand that had a range of aboriginal prints that I hadn’t seen before. I visited Carol Bryer Fallert’s fabulous, spacious studio and admired her range of gradations, tie dyes and ombres that she designs for Benartex . Still, ever mindful of my luggage allowance, not to mention my stash at home, I resisted any urge to purchase. Instead, thanks to Beneath the Southern Sky artist Catherine McDonald of New Zealand, I returned home with my very own collection of Distressed Threads. Thanks Catherine!
At Distressed Threads we create unique fabrics with attitude. We hand treat the fabrics with techniques that include discharge, rusting, roasting, dyeing, indigo, painting and stamping.

I’ve got a metre piece from Distressed Threads sitting in my stash waiting for a special project. Aren’t they great?!
