Over six years ago I launched my website www.BrendaGaelSmith.com to showcase my contemporary quilts and textile art (as distinct from Serendipity Patchwork & Quilting that concentrates on my teaching and quilt design business). Today I am excited to share with you my revamped contemporary textile art website that has the following new features:
- rather than using a header image, I have opted for a plain white background. A slideshow on the homepage shows a selection of more recent works that can be easily updated from time to time;
- my portfolio is now displayed with a separate gallery page for each series; and
- a new Resources sets out materials relating to copyright, productivity tools, publications, tutorials and website design that I have found useful in my own creative practice.
On the subject of website design, I am using WordPress and the Prose theme on the Genesis Framework [affiliate link]. Prose is a mobile responsive premium theme with point-and-click design controls that allows you to style your site without coding. While I can (and do!) build websites from scratch, paying for a Genesis premium theme, a one time purchase with unlimited updates, makes it even easier to design, maintain and update my websites.
Just as the Sydney Harbour Bridge is constantly being repainted, websites require ongoing maintenance to keep them fresh and relevant. I have more content to add and design tweaks to make but the overall structure is in place. I invite you to visit www.BrendaGaelSmith.com and have a look around!
