Things are generally pretty relaxed around here at the Serendipity Studio. Summer attire is typically a swimsuit or shorts and a tank top. Winter attire has been known to involve tracksuit pants and woolly socks. However, with my upcoming assignment as guest artist at the Craft & Sewing Shows, I decided I need to find something a little more professional. In a blatant copycat nod to my buddy Candy Glendening and her outfit in the excellent instructional DVD Dyeing to Stitch, a combo of a custom apron and a hand-dyed T seemed the way to go.
I bought a couple of black aprons and asked my Facebook friends about logo embroidery services. Within seconds, I was directed to Meg’s Monograms of Townsville. (Meg is Mum of Elle of Buy Hand; and Elle shares a shop with fellow Twelve Kirsty and PompomRouge. Meg did a super job and so now I have an apron for me and a sidekick:
I also purchased some plain white long sleeved t shirts on sale in the US. Belatedly, I looked at the labels to discover two are 60% cotton/40% polyester; the other two are 60% polyester, 34% rayon; 3% elasthanne. D’uh. I went ahead and dyed the two poly/cotton mix shirts. Here are the results:
Neither are great exemplars of tshirt art but this has more to do with my process (I could have been more scrupulous about my scouring and dye mixing on the turquoise one) than any apparent shortcomings of the mixed content materials. I have another dyeing session planned.
Do come and visit me in my new Serendipity Studio attire at the Craft & Sewing Shows. First up is Rosehill, Sydney (8-11 March).

Thanks for the shout out…those shirts look fantastic! I am totally shocked those top two shirts aren’t 100% cotton, so a big PHEW! And the embroidery on those aprons are awesome!!! A big shout out of “woot” to Meg! ๐
