As these photos by fellow Twelve Diane Perin Hock show, there was an abundance of shopping options in the 20 aisles of vendors at the International Quilt Festival. Over the course of four days, I meandered up and down, trying to take it all in, but I didn’t purchase much.
For me, the absolute standout booth was with Marcia Derse and, while I rarely buy fabrics these days, this set of 8 half yards found its way into my suitcase:
Marcia has a new range due to be released any day now and I hope it is embraced in Australia. Dayview Textiles is the Australian distributor so, if these beautiful fabrics appeal to you, put in a request with your local quilt store.
I also bought some Procion dye, a soy wax batik kit and some extra soy wax pellets from Prochem, except the extra wax wasn’t in the bag when I unpacked it back at the hotel 🙁
My only other purchase was the Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics DVD set from the SAQA store that I am looking forward to viewing over the holidays when I am in the US and have a large hand stitching project to work on:
This nine-part documentary series focuses on why quilts are bigger than you think, seen through the lenses of history, art, and politics. For the quilter, collector or even casual observer, each episode takes the viewer behind the scenes and into new territory, exploring the centrality of the quilt in American culture and revealing the unsuspected size, breadth and depth of the current quilt phenomenon.
Premiering in September 2011 on PBS stations, Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics is also available for purchase at www.whyquiltsmatter.org.

Love your Marcia Derse selections. Bummer on the missing soy wax. I’ve had some of that stuff for a couple years and have yet to play with it. One of these days…
