Ever since reading Art Cloth by Jane Dunnewold, I’ve been wanting to try out some resist painting techniques. With practice comes mastery and I’m sure if I could be bothered persevering (I can’t), I would get better at assessing how thick to make the paste; how best to etch the designs; how much crackling to do; what consistency to dilute the fabric paint; how much paint to apply etc. For now it’s just a case of awe and wonder at how small and fine Jane’s handwriting samples seem to be! (And I wish I could have kept the flour crust on there permanently.)

Hi Brenda, I am intrigued by this process and hope to see your results …. and show you the outcome I had this week. You will be amused by my piece – whilst left to dry in the courtyard, a hungy visitor on a carbohydrate & high fibre diet nibbled some of the trimmings & fabric in the dark of the night. It will be a one-off!
