When I was making my Christmas cake this year, I decided to be more adventurous with the spices and reached for the Chinese Five Spice. What I actually picked up and poured into the dry ingredients was Hot Chilli pepper. Ahem. I managed to scoop most of the chilli out but some remained inextricably mixed. I wonder how the cake will taste…
Amy says
I’m sure it will be fine! There’s so many other things in Christmas cake that it’s bound to blend in. Besides, have you ever had chilli chocolate tim tams? Yum yum.
Mary Ann Littlejohn says
You may be onto something good. My killer gingerbread has cayenne as an ingredient.
Gerrie says
Well, I like chile with chocolate – is that in the mix. This just doesn’t seem like a Brenda thing – grabbing the wrong ingredient, that is!
Erica says
you just reminded me of my friend’s story, she was making an apple strudel and added what she thought was chopped nuts, instead it was dried garlic, her father was the only one loyal enough to eat a slice.
Chantel says
I’ve had chocolate chilli cake before and you can’t actually taste the chilli, just like Coffee can be in chocolate cake and you normally can’t taste that either… I’ve also had chilli in a hot chocolate… so here’s hopeing you’ll be pleasantly surprised ๐
Judy says
brenda,
Wow! That’s something to look forward too, who knows you may like it better, they have chilli flavoured chocolate now.
Diane says
Ooh, I came SO close to putting cumin in some ginger spice cookies the other day instead of cinnamon, but caught myself just in time. Hope your cake turns out!
Grace says
So…..how was the cake???
Brenda says
There’s hardly any left so it must be OK!
