I didn’t buy much at the Sydney Quilt Show – just some needles, some hand-dyed fabric scrap bags, some Valdani variegated cotton threads and this book:
I did a wonderful Colour is Magic workshop with Gloria Loughman at Quilt Camp in 2006 and found her to be a supremely thoughtful and generous teacher. These same qualities are reflected in her book which is packed full of technical and design information.
As quiltmakers, we often gaze at quilts and wonder “how did she do this? and how was that effect achieved?”. Wonder no more, Gloria’s book shares all the answers from painting landscape fabrics to stitching techniques; from mosaic landscape construction methods to tips for drawing trees.
And if you still need some inspiration for skies in your quilts, check out these paintings by Miodrag Jankovic.

I bought this book on a vacation to Las Vegas. I read it before I even got it home and then was in anguish because I couldn’t go right out and paint a decent background until I got home. Love the book.
