For a while now, I have been keen to curate a travelling exhibition of contemporary textile works so I was thrilled to learn this week that Expertise Events has agreed to provide three anchor venues that will make this a viable proposition.
Accordingly, I invite all textile artists to submit an entry exploring the theme Beneath the Southern Sky. Each work will be in a 40x100cm (W x L) banner format and up to 30 works may be selected.
To submit an entry, please review the Conditions of Entry and complete the Online Entry Form. The closing date for entries is 25 January 2012. International entries are welcome.
The following exhibition venues have been confirmed and additional venues are under investigation:
- Craft Expo Auckland: 15 – 18 March 2012
- Australasian Quilt Convention: 12-15 April 2012
- Textile Art Festival: June 2012
Images of the selected textile works will also be published in an online gallery on the Beneath the Southern Sky website.
Timeline:
- 25 January 2012: closing date for entries
- 7 February 2012: final date for notification of selected entries
- 28 February 2012: final date for delivery to the curator and payment of A$20 entry fee for each selected work
- 1 September 2013: return of textile works to artists
Please help spread the word. For further information, please contact me at info@beneathsouthernsky.com

3 weeks is probably too short for international entries to arrive with you !

Thanks for your feedback Marijke. I agree that 3 weeks is a little tight but I hope to notify selected artists well before 7 February and there is some wiggle room before the first exhibition in mid-March. In any event, given the theme “Beneath the Southern Sky”, I expect the majority of entries will be from Australia and New Zealand but others are welcome.

Re the size – I assume you mean 100wide x 40 high? so the image is narrow and wide and reads horizontally from left to right?
40 wide x 100 long could be interpreted as a narrow banner that hangs down,so it has a vertical orientation – I guess both would be described as banners.
Just want to make sure I understand correctly.

Hi Hilary
40x100cm WxL means 40cm wide x 100cm long making for a long skinny scroll-like banner in vertical orientation. For clarity, I will add a diagram to the details when I get back from the Sydney Quilt Show later today.
