Following my post Seeking Feedback on Premium WordPress Themes and advice from Lisa Call, I didn’t spend any more time deliberating the relative merits of the different options – I just picked one and ran with it.
I’m using the Prose Theme on the Genesis Framework [affiliate link] which as you can see is a rather muted affair straight out of the box. This theme comes with “point-and-click design controls” so I was easily able to change fonts and colours of many elements to dress my blog to complement my website which is not (yet?) on the WordPress platform.
I did have to play around with coding a little to shift some structural elements around. There’s still some tweaking to go but it’s ready to share with you all. It’s an evolutionary rather than revolutionary blog revamp and the most significant changes are behind the scenes. Key external changes from my previous layout include:
- a dropdown menu that is integrated with my website;
- wider columns that can accommodate bigger photos and more thumbnails in a single row;
- threaded comments.

In addition, in the navigation bar you will see an icon linking to the new Serendipity Patchwork & Quilting Facebook page. Exciting news and snippets about forthcoming workshops, exhibitions, presentations, projects and other developments relating to the Serendipity enterprise will be shared via this page. I won’t be bombarding my existing Facebook friends with “Like” invitations but you are most welcome to join me at:
