A few years ago now, I undertook an online City & Guilds patchwork and quilting course with Linda Kemshall. One of the course modules involved selecting and researching three contemporary quiltmakers and making a piece inspired by their style or technique. For my three quiltmakers, I chose:
- Judy Hooworth (Australia);
- Vikki Pignatelli (USA) – because David had just given me her book Quilting Curves featuring a somewhat fiddly but very effective top-stitching technique; and
- Kirsty Duncan (then of New Zealand but now in Australia and blogland)
Around that time, the New Zealand Quilter magazine featured a profile of Kirsty and one of her patterns was on the cover. I’m afraid I soon tired of doing all that satin stitch BUT I did manage to complete this cushion:

Cor, B – what an ego-stroke!! Thanks so much for showing me/us this! You did a great job – I totally get it about the satin-stitch thing, though 🙂
I’ve wondered from time to time about doing City and Guilds myself. Can we see some more of your work from the course?

I love the design and the colours. I second the request to see some more of your work from the course.

You can see a very small selection of my C&G coursework on the student gallery on Linda’s website.

Inspirational is such an inadequate word. But there is also a lot of natural talent, and the dedication to smaller detail, like planning, which unfortuantely I seem to lack. Thank you for sharing. AUBIRDWOMAN
