To mark the 20th anniversary of my first baby quilt, I have been reflecting on what I have learned along the way. Creative Backstory is a series of blog posts each highlighting a different year. I invite you to share your creative backstory. Each day, I will post an optional prompt. Leave your response as a comment below or on my Serendipity Facebook page or use the tag #creativebackstory or Instagram and I will add your name to my Creative Backstory Giveaway. I look forward to reading about what has shaped your creative life.
Australasian Quilt Convention Highlights
For today’s post, I am going to skip over 2007 and 2008 and alight on 2009. That’s the year that I taught at my first Australasian Quilt Convention in and Magic Carpet, the first work in my Dreamlines series was selected for the inaugural AQC challenge Fantasy:
For me, a magic carpet is the ultimate travel fantasy. Just imagine if you could utter a few secret words and be immediately transported to anywhere you wish!
I sure could use a magic carpet right about now!
My artwork was selected for AQC Challenges in later years and toured throughout Australia:
- Remember – AP&Q AQC Challenge 2010:Timelines #1: Remember the Date!
- Seven Deadly Sins – AP&Q AQC Challenge 2011: Desire Lines #7: Lust in the Log Cabin
- FREE – AQC Challenge 2013: Flying Colours: Uncaged
- Ten – AQC Challenge 2014: The X Factor
- Flora & Fauna – AQC Challenge 2017: Karkalla
Expertise Events, the organisers of the Australasian Quilt Convention, have been very supportive of my curatorial projects and have hosted the following exhibitions:
- 2010: premiere exhibition of the Twelve by Twelve International Art Quilt Challenge theme series
- 2012: Beneath the Southern Sky
- 2013: Twelve by Twelve Colourplay exhibition
