Last week, when I was due to post my textile sketch for Week 41 of my Weekly Art Project, I was in New Zealand for the selection of quilts for National Quilt Symposium 2017. Working with Philip Trusttam and Marianne Hargreaves, we reviewed digital images for 341 quilts across a range of techniques and styles over one and half days. Here we are looking fresh and perky at the start of the first day:
It was an interesting and stimulating assignment that I will report on later in the year. Apparently selection notifications go out tomorrow so I will be steering clear of social media this week so I don’t inadvertently links artists with quilts. Judging of selected quilts is coming up in August so that will be another flying trip across the Tasman.
I did work on my textile sketch before I left for New Zealand. I decided to go for patriotic green and gold wattle.
My first attempt seemed a bit cheesy in appearance:
So I had another try. I completed the composition before leaving for New Zealand and finished stitching the rest on my return.

I look forward to seeing YOUR weekly art project. New participants are welcome to join in at any time. It would be wonderful to see your work. Be sure to link back to your specific blog/social media post so that we can learn more about your inspiration and process.
