The Gosford Art Prize is the premier event in the annual exhibition program presented by Gosford Regional Gallery and Central Coast Council. I am thrilled that my artwork Banksia Filigree is one of the 133 finalists in the Gosford Art Prize 2022. The exhibition continues until 23 October 2022 and the gallery is open from 9:30am until 4pm daily.
Look closely at a banksia flower and you will that the spiky inflorescence creates a delicate filigree pattern.

A vine or spine is a recurring structural element underpinning many of my compositions. It’s a versatile motif that plays with perceptions of positive and negative space as I vary spacing, amplitude, colour and scale. Presented horizontally, the motif lends itself to landscapes and seascapes; vertically, it provides a proxy for trees, wildflowers, and more. In Banksia Filigree I introduce a further linear element as I outline the indentations of the motif. It’s a puzzle to construct but now I have wrapped my brain around it, I am sure to continue this design exploration.
The Gosford Art Prize was initially organised by the community in the 1970s. When Gosford Regional Gallery opened in 2000, it became the permanent home of the Gosford Art Prize. Gosford Regional Gallery celebrates the diversity of creative practices on the Central Coast of NSW and beyond. In my experience, they are very welcoming towards textile and fibre art. I am so happy to see my textile artwork hanging with a variety of other media. Pictured:
