Callistemon Cascade
Australia Wide Eight is a touring exhibition showcasing the textile artwork of Ozquilt Network members. The exhibition features 36 small artworks, each 40x40cm. Many of the artworks are for sale including my submission Callistemon Cascade:
In my neighbourhood, the arrival of spring is heralded by a ruby cascade of bottlebrush in full bloom and the loud hum of bees coming from far and wide.

On the back of teaching my Geometricks workshops, I have been exploring triangular shapes in my own work lately. When you strip back a design to the bare essentials, every shape, every space and every angle comes into sharp focus. A small nudge this way or that way can change the whole energy of a composition. Here I wanted to mimic the triangular tuffs of bottlebrush “bristles” against a clear spring sky with beelines traversing the work in and out. I was pleased this work turned out the requisite size despite intensive machine stitching that tends to have a shrinking effect. Phew!
