Random thoughts while destashing
- What was I thinking?!
- I remember that!
- I wondered where that fabric got to.
- I enjoyed making that quilt for X.
- Photographing and uploading products is the pits. Kudos to all the shop owners out there that present us with shopping options.
- That’s going straight into the pile for The Sewing Basket. A project that supplies a wide range of donated fabrics and patterns, patchwork, embroidery materials, knitting and crochet yarn, haberdashery, and more, while providing employment opportunities for people with disability.
There is something kind of intimate about posting images from your stash. Each fabric has a story. For many (most!) pieces, I can recall the time of purchase and what attracted me. And just because I’m sending it out in the world, doesn’t necessarily mean that I don’t like it any more. Rather it’s an acknowledgment that there are only so many hours in the day and I want to focus on those projects that are most meaningful to me right now. It’s similar with books. When I first started quilting, before the internet really took off (gasp!) I devoured books and magazines as I experimented with a wide range of techniques and materials. Kind friends and family supported me by buying me books too. My shelves are sagging under the weight. It’s time to lighten the load and make space.
So come, take a sticky-beak! Here are some of the highlights.
Fabrics
There are over 70 fabrics to choose from including:
- the Marcia Derse Streamline Bundle picked up in Houston in 2011, fondled often but never sewn!
- some lively stripes and dots from Yvonne Porcella
- 11+ metres of 72in wide black polyester felt that I bought for hanging panels for the Vision 2020 exhibition tour to the United States that was cancelled because of you know what. I am selling this by the metre with a further discount for bulk orders.
- a selection of 30-35 strips from the Anna’s Starry Night range available individually or as a set
- 1 metre of a funky John Kaldor Spandex print – perfect for whipping up a 90s creation.
- lots of Classic Reproduction meterage and useful scraps
There’s also: apple prints (don’t ask me why!); metres of floral pretties suitable for backings; brights; batiks; and silks.
Books
The book line up includes:
- Bojagi by Sara Cook
- the classic It’s OK If You Sit On My Quilt book
- Quilting Curves by Vikki Pignatelli
- Making Quilts by Kathy Doughty of Material Obsession (now out of print)
Patterns & Notions
The Notions section includes template sets, rulers, foundation by the yard, artist transfer paper, quilting stencils and the ceramic tile that is shown at the top of this post.
There’s a small number of patterns including a link to my free Melody 33 pattern that is ideal for stash-busting.
Please share this post with anyone who might be interested. I am keen for these items to find a new home where they will be used and enjoyed.
