The dedicated team of volunteers at Ozquilt Network Inc, Australia’s organisation for art quilters, have developed an exciting program of events to coincide with the opening of Art Quilt Australia 2013: People Place & Nation, the Australia Wide Three exhibition at Queanbeyan. and their conference and annual general meeting. Due to a quilt show judging commitment in New Zealand, I won’t be able to attend but I hope others will not miss out on this opportunity.
You are invited to join the Ozquilt Network Conference Gala (29 October – 3 November 2013) in Canberra. My Art Quilt 2013 is a professional development and network day for all members of Ozquilt Network. Non-members are also very welcome. My Art Quilt 2013 is the main focus of a 6-day Conference Gala program (and includes a short Ozquilt Network annual general meeting). The Conference Gala program incorporates exclusive delegates-only optional pre-conference and post-conference events, plus free public events related to the program. An overview is set out below. - Wednesday: Self-guided art walk (including textiles) map of suggestions provided
- Thursday:Australia Wide Three floor talk
- Friday: Private tour of textile works National Gallery collection (Robert Bell ) and Canberra Museum & Art Gallery (Mark Bayly); Art Quilt Australia 2013: People Place & Nation official opening at 6pm; conference dinner at 7.30pm.
MY ART QUILT 2013 CONFERENCE – Saturday 2 November, 10am-5.30pm
- Curator and artists floor talk for delegates at Art Quilt Australia 2013: People Place & Nation;
- Conference papers: Valerie Kirk (Creative Journey); Sue Cunningham (Evolution of An Art Quilter), Lucy Carroll (From the Start);
- Ozquilt Network Inc annual general meeting; and
- Delegates viewing of Centenary Tapestry and ANU textile workshop with Valerie Kirk.
POST-CONFERENCE – Sunday 3 November
- 9.30-10.30am: Private viewing of tapestries to Honour Nobel Prize Winner Brian Schmidt led by Valerie Kirk; and
- 11.00am – 12.30pm: National Arboretum delegates visit led by landscape architect Dianne Firth.
