The Laundry King and I are taking a road trip the central west and south of the state of NSW as I am teaching a two day workshop this weekend. First stop Cowra, most famous as the site of a POW Breakout in which 231 Japanese soldiers and four Australians lost their lives. (Incidentally, I agree with Bill Bryson that the hologram presentation at the information centre is a rather charming introduction to this grim subject.) These days, Cowra is also known for its Japanese Gardens and peace precinct and that is where e headed on the cold and grey afternoon. Most of the trees seem to be compliantly waiting for the official cherry blossom festivities next weekend but the few we saw in bloom were beautiful.
I also got to see my first red rumped or red backed grass parrot, another contender for my Flying Colours series. Finally, we strolled down by the Lachlan River and discovered mural on the bridge pylons.
