Whilst in Canberra for my Twelve by Twelve presentation, the Laundry King and I took the opportunity to take in some of the attractions in and around the national capital including:
- the new Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander galleries in the National Gallery – I especially liked the textile works using the Javanese silk batik technique but was disappointed that the striking green, white and red work from the Desert Painting movement shown on the NGA website does not appear to be currently on display;
- the Australian War Memorial including the wonderful mosaics and the rich symbolism in the Hall of Memory; the poppy encrusted Roll of Honour and the sweeping views back up to Parliament House;
- exquisite pieces in the Bungendore Wood Works gallery and the current exhibition The Printmakers that continues until 3 August;
- Fishwyck Fresh Food Markets on Friday and Capital Region Farmers Market on Saturday with two or three wineries along the way.
Then it was time for the 4+ hour drive home during which the new car acquitted itself very well and the camera on the iPad performed passably.
