At the conclusion of the European Patchwork Meeting on Sunday evening, we packed up the Australia Quilts exhibit. Thanks to assistance from my husband The Laundry King and Françoise, it took less than an hour. Quilts have a habit of expanding once released from their packaging. Miraculously, we managed to fit them all back into their original boxes:
Our calendar was clear on Monday. Apart from getting the rental car back to Strasbourg and catching the airport bus to Frankfurt in the late afternoon, we had no set plans for our last day in France. We decided not to be too ambitious. Our first stop was The Chateau du Haut-Koenigsburg a 12th century castle perched high above the Alsace plains that was restored by Kaiser Wilhelm II in the early 20th century to emphasise that Alsace was once again German territory:
The restoration project was a remarkable feat of engineering but I especially liked all the textures of the building materials, furnishings and military items (click to enlarge):
