It’s a little over 48 hours since we first arrived at our home-away-from-home in the heart of the English countryside. Our AirBNB selection has its fair share of idiosyncracies including a surfeit of cushions; a singing toilet cistern; a corkscrew that is no match for French corks; a laminated floor that pops when you walk in it (imagine walking on rice bubbles); and a combined washer-dryer that confounds the Laundry King’s sensibilities. However, in true Escape to the Country style, it “ticks most of the boxes” and we are quite comfortable.
The house is located in a very rural area. Tractors bearing hops and apples emerge from the hedgerows into the narrow laneways when you least expect it.
There are even oast houses although these ones have been converted into residences.
The house backs onto fields and we can hear the birds chirping and the church bells chiming. It’s very tranquil and we have adopted a tempo to match, albeit clocking up 12,000+ steps each day.
Yesterday, we checked out the market town of Ludlow and came home with fresh rabbit, celeriac, local cheeses and Damson plums. We didn’t go into Ludlow Castle but took in this view from Whitcliffe:
Today we headed south to Hereford and lunched at an inn on the River Wye:
All in all, just swanning around.

Sounds divine. If only I could navigate that left-side driving (I’m an American), I’d book my tickets now. Luckily I’ll enjoy the sights through your writing. Enjoy yourselves!
