Changing Sentinels

28 February 2015 Filed Under: My Surroundings, Twelve by Twelve Leave a Comment

For the Twelve by Twelve BrownSageBlue Colourplay challenge, I made Copacabana Sentinels, a piece depicting the two tall Norfolk pines next to the Copacabana Surf Life Saving Club that are a local landmark: Fast forward four years (is it really that long?!), and the view from my studio is changing.  One of the trees was struck […]

After nearly three years of international touring, the Twelve by Twelve Colourplay collection has its final exhibition this weekend hosted by Association Belge du Patchwork, Enghien, Belgium: 2-5 October 2014.  It’s in a chateau that looks like a grand exhibition space – look at those lovely parquetry floors, big windows and chandeliers!  Meanwhile, back in […]

Today marks the 7th anniversary of the formation of the Twelve by Twelve International Art Quilt Challenge.  Little did we know that our work would still be on tour in 2014! If you are attending Carrefour Européen du Patchwork, then please join me and Belgian Twelve Françoise Jamart for the Twelve by Twelve Colourplay exhibition at […]

It’s just 125 days until the 20th European Patchwork Meeting/Carrefour Européen du Patchwork  opens in Alsace, France from 18-21 September 2014.  I will be attending the event in a variety of capacities: curator of Australia Quilts – “exceptional quilts from the great Southern land” ranging from traditional quilts to contemporary textile art (that’s a glimpse […]

Serendipity at 2014 European Patchwork Meeting

7 March 2014 Filed Under: Exhibitions, Teaching, Twelve by Twelve 3 Comments

In September 2014, Carrefour Européen du Patchwork/European Patchwork Meeting celebrates its 20th anniversary in Alsace, France. Australia is guest country of honour from outside Europe and I am curating a special invitational exhibit of 30-45 “exceptional quilts from the great Southern land” ranging from traditional quilts to contemporary textile art. In addition, my work features […]

2014 – A Year of Curating

13 December 2013 Filed Under: Exhibitions, Living Colour!, Teaching, Twelve by Twelve 1 Comment

I am excited to have two major curating projects in 2014, building on my previous experience with Twelve by Twelve and Beneath the Southern Sky. Living Colour I have already received more than a dozen entries for Living Colour and look forward to receiving many more by the 31 January 2014. I am looking for […]

This year (2026) marks the 20th anniversary of the Australasian Quilt Convention. The entrance features a display of the brochure covers over the years and it was fun to identify 3 covers that include snippets of exhibits that I was involved with.

⭐️ 2009 was my first AQC. I was a tutor and my contribution to the “teach me” exhibit was “Grass” that you can see in the lower right corner.

⭐️ in 2013, the Twelve by Twelve International Art Quilt Project shared the Colourplay series which included a piece by @studioconway highlighting the plight of refugees in drought (see centre left)

⭐️ in 2020 the chronology was disrupted by the Covid pandemic but not before the brochure was published with “The Fuchsia’s Looking Bright m” by @darlingdi from @vision2020textiles who poseda poignant question: Will my optimistic dream of a brighter future turn out to be 2020 vision, or just a fun and fabulous fabric fusion of my favourite colours?

Congratulations to @craft.events_ on the 20th Anniversary 🤩

I am driven to abstraction. Abstraction is a persistent and insistent force in my creative practice. Working improvisationally, I capture the essence of my subjects to impart a sense of wonder of the natural world and a deep affinity to place.

As part of the Rajah Award that I received last year, I will be sharing a selection of my textile paintings in a special exhibit at the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne presented by @craft.events_

Textile enthusiasts from across Australia and overseas gather at this exciting event. If you see me at AQC, please do say hello. I am looking forward to seeing everyone😍
