Welcome to my tutorial for making a quilt hanging sleeve with crisp, top-stitched edges. This make it SO much easier to sew the sleeve on straight!
Hanging sleeves are the most common way of preparing our quilts and 2-dimensional textile art for display. For me, a good hanging sleeve has 3 essential features:
- a D-shape to accommodate the hanging rod without distortion
- it is invisible from the front
- crisp edges for ease of attaching on the back of the quilt and preventing the sleeve from twisting
This makes a 4 inch deep sleeve with moderate fullness. Adjust the measurements to fit the requirements of your hanging equipment. You may need to make a deeper back seam/more roundness for your situation.
