FUNdamentally Circles & Beyond
Circles are powerful design elements creating movement and interest. In FUNdamentally Circles and Beyond FUNdamentally Circles, you will learn versatile techniques for freeform cutting and PIECING circles and other curvilinear shapes to create your own dynamic compositions. Explore the design possibilities of circles – fractured, distorted, quartered and more. Deconstruct a classic shape into something new and individually expressive. Here’s a selection of images from the Serendipity Student Gallery.
Abstraction in Action
For committed students looking to stretch their creative muscles and to explore abstraction both in concept and practice. Working from a personal source of inspiration found in nature or place, students will learn the basics of abstraction through observation, reflection and repetition. See Abstraction in Action course outline. This is the third and last time that I will be teaching this workshop in 2022. Here’s what my students say:
The course has made me think more deeply about my quilts and has given me a different approach. I really enjoyed the course, it is well structured and ideal for anyone who wants to focus on design and ideas rather than technique.
Mary Hewson @bartonquilter
This is not the end of my design journey but only the beginning. It has given me the confidence to design more of my own pieces and to look at things differently.

Logs & Ladders: Building with Improvisation
Build your own composition with improvisational log cabin and/or ladder units. Learn freeform cutting without rulers and how to join irregular blocks. Explore the design principles of repetition and variation. Suitable for all skill levels. Ideal for scrap busting. See the Serendipity Student Gallery – Logs & Ladders!
