Golden Textures 2019 opens today at Central Goldfields Art Gallery, Maryborough, Victoria and continues until 31 March 2019. I am delighted that this contemporary art quilt exhibition includes my artwork: Integrifolia #3: Stops & Starts.
Integrifolia #3 has its genesis in my 2018 Monthly Art Project and exploration of the shapes in banksia cones.
Integrifolia #3: Stops & Starts
As the woody, cone-like fruit of the coastal banksia mature, the follicles open up to reveal irregular elliptical chambers. Seeds are released to start the cycle of regeneration anew. Nature is replete with such stops and starts. This is reflected in the complementary palette of red and green and the lines of stitching echoing out into the universe.
Thanks for curator Jenny Bacon for this installation photo. It’s great to see how the lighting picks up the stitching detail.
