Many artists contemplate solo exhibitions as part of their creative and professional development. In a juried/group exhibition, someone else typically sets the parameters – size, theme, timetable and so on – and makes it happen. A solo exhibition has a different dynamic. You commit to presenting a body of work and the onus is on you to define the exhibition and do the work. It can be daunting but it’s also exhilarating and rewarding.
I have 13+ years experience in exhibition administration for various organisations and have independently curated several popular touring exhibitions. Nevertheless, I learned new things when I presented my solo exhibition Natural Abstractions in early 2018.
In my Solo Exhibitions: Tips & Insights webinar, presented in conjunction with Studio Art Quilts Associates*, I share my experience in putting together solo exhibitions including asking Why? What? Where? and How? This information is instructive and inspiring for any art quilter whether sharing artwork at a local library or a big city gallery. The webinar is available to SAQA members and includes a comprehensive resource listing and sample checklists including 10 Essentials for Exhibiton Proposals. Even better, there are two interactive live Q&A sessions scheduled for early December.
Let’s Talk! Live (and recorded) Q&A:
I invite you to join me in the live Q&A where we can build on the framework in the webinar and brainstorm together:
- Monday 3 December at 3 pm US EST (GMT -5)
- (Tuesday 4 December at 7am AEDT, Sydney)
- Sunday 9 December at 7 pm US EST (GMT -5)
- (Monday 10 December 11am AEDT, Sydney)
