Today was HUGE. Two exhibitions/178 quilts to install at the 20th European Patchwork Meeting. You can read about the installation of Twelve by Twelve Colourplay over in the Twelve by Twelve blog. This post will focus on Australia Quilts – exceptional quilts from the Great Southern Land.
When we arrived at Place des Tisserands, a converted leisure centre, we were greeted with an expanse of 70 metres exhibition space:
The quilts were delivered soon after:
I gave myself a momentary scare as I unpacked the boxes. One of the smaller quilts appeared to be missing. Quelle horreur! Fortunately, it was wrapped inside another quilt. Oh the relief!
The Australian exhibit is comprised of 34 quilts and installation took most of the day. The technicians were very thoughtful and methodical; intent on showing the quilts to their best advantage. I was assisted by the Laundry King who was also instrumental in ensuring that signage was level and quilts were well positioned. These photos are from before final tweaking and cleaning up the exhibition space but give you an overall impression:
I will get more photos tomorrow. I look forward to sharing this exhibition with all the visitors. Do come and say hello! I will be giving an informal floor talk at 11am and 3pm. A bientôt!
