After every teaching assignment, I take a few moments to reflect and jot down some notes: what worked well, what didn’t? what did my students enthuse about? were there any grumbles? what needs tweaking? do the requirements list and teaching notes need updating? and so on.
For some time now, I have been aware that the improvisational piecing component of my Scrap Queen Odyssey class is very popular. So much so, it seemed to deserve a dedicated class of its own. As a result, I am pleased to announce a brand new workshop for 2014 – Logs & Ladders: Building with Improvisation.
Build your own composition with improvisational units – log cabins, ladders and more. Learn freeform cutting without rulers or templates; how to join irregular blocks; and the effective use of positive and negtative space. Explore the design principles of repetition and variation.
Metropolis (77x70cm) is a teaching sample for this workshop. Also view the Serendipity Student Gallery – Logs & Ladders. Please contact me if you would like to book this workshop for your shop or group.
Workshop Spotlight is series of posts highlighting workshops from my portfolio of project-based and technique-driven patchwork and quilting classes. My focus is on striking designs and the effective use of colour so as to promote fun and encourage the creative confidence of my students. I am available to teach at shops or private venues on the Central Coast, in the greater Sydney metropolitan area and beyond. I love to travel!
