I’ve made several hanging sleeves for quilts this week. I was all set to show you how I do it but Susan has already posted an excellent hanging sleeve tutorial that pretty much sums up how I approach this task. In particular, Susan highlights the importance of incorporating a kind of pleat or extra pouf in the sleeve so that it accommodates a hanging rod without bulging out the front surface of your quilt. So many quiltmakers do their quilt a disservice by not giving their sleeves this slack.
Probably the only thing that I would add to Susan’s tutorial is that I often use flat wooden batons for my hanging rods and put eye screws in either end that can be hooked over hanging nails in the wall. I’d show you an example but the few quilts I have hanging up at home are out of easy reach…
