It’s over a year since I was in my hometown holding a Serendipity Circles workshop with Warkworth Quilters. So I was surprised, but delighted!, when I received this picture of Annette’s finished quilt:

Annette doesn’t have e-mail but Anne (the group’s president) kindly sent the image by e-mail along with this note “I hope this gets through okay, I am still not fully computer literate!!”.
I was delighted on two counts. First, it is always a thrill to know that one of my workshops has inspired someone to complete their very own version of Serendipity Circles - a workshop that, incidentally, I’ll be teaching at the Australasian Quilt Convention 2009 in February. Second, I greatly admire people who are willing to learn new skills in order to share special things.
I recognise that we all have different comfort levels when it comes to technology. That’s why, in addition to my RSS feed, I offer readers the option of receiving my blog updates by e-mail. All you have to do is type your e-mail address into the form below. Unlike some other e-mail subscription services, you do not need any special account. After you have submitted the form, you will receive a verification message from FeedBurner. Your subscription to my blog Serendipity and the Art of the Quilt will be activated as soon as you respond to the verification message and you can, of course, unsubscribe at any time. Such is the wonder of e-mail.

I had a very pleasant day teaching Scrap Queen Odyssey at The Cottage Quiltworks yesterday. I was so engrossed that I didn’t manage to get photos of everyone’s work but here is a glimpse:

I next teach Scrap Queen Odyssey at the
Australasian Quilt Convention on Saturday, 28 February 2009 and I’ll be back at
The Cottage Quiltworks on 11 May 2009.

I have been making up [optional] kits for my forthcoming Colour Rhapsody workshops. One way or another, I end up for lots of narrow strips - just perfect for foundation string piecing*:

Each foundation square is approximately 15×15 inches. These images show what might happen if I decide to cut a single square into four pieces:

*This is one of many techniques that I cover in my Scrap Queen Odyssey workshop that I am also teaching at the Australasian Quilt Convention 2009.

The post-holiday catch up continues - two months is a LONG time to be away! Yesterday I touched base with the organisers of the Australasian Quilt Convention 2009 where I will be teaching four workshops from 26 February to 1 March 2009.
One of the classes is SOLD OUT and the others are filling fast but, if you are quick, you can still join me for Serendipity Circles, Power Stripping or Scrap Queen Odyssey. I would love to see you at AQC 2009!

The gallery pages of the MY PLACE contemporary art quilt exhibition website have now been updated to feature thirty striking quilts from South Africa. Spread the word! I can’t wait to see these quilts, along with the others from New Zealand and Australia, at the Australasian Quilt Convention in Melbourne next year (where I also happen to be teaching if you are interested in joining one of my workshops). Also if you would like to add a MY PLACE button to your blog or website, here is the code.

Since I first visited the UK in 1996, I’ve been wanting to visit
Hampton Court Palace. This trip we finally made it. Following the informative audio guide, we visited the Tudor kitchens (did you know that pie crusts were originally made as a cooking vessel and not eaten?); the state rooms of Henry VIII; the apartments of William III; the Queen’s apartments and the Georgian rooms. We then took a turn around the gardens before finding a pub (which coincidentally is next door to the quilt shop
Creative Quilting).

We will be returning to the UK after our time in France. I am looking forward to teaching at
Midsomer Quilting near Bath on Sunday 12 October and hope some of my blog readers will join me for “
Making Waves” (and some
whirlpools for
Helen).

I am delighted to report that Power Points quilt features as a project in the current issue of Down Under Quilts (Issue 124 August 2008). This is another no-fuss, effective design in my Power Stripping series. You can learn the secrets of Power Stripping to make this design (or more than a dozen others!) in my forthcoming workshop at The Cottage Quiltworks on Wednesday, 29 October 2008, 10am-3pm. Call Chris and Jann on (02) 9918 7550 to reserve your place.

In 24 hours or so, I should be sitting on a plane winging my way to Europe via the United States. I hope to have regular internet access while I am travelling but have enabled comment moderation just in case there are any glitches. A bientot.

Thanks to Stephanie (who doesn’t have a blog but we’re working on her!), I received a copy of the catalogue for the Stitched & Bound 2008 exhibition which is organised by the West Australian Quilters’ Association. As I read through, and with the latest Twelve by Twelve theme, I of course noticed Cherry Johnston’s quilt - Illumination.
By the way, there are still some spots left in my Serendipity Circles workshop at The Cottage Quiltworks next week on 13 August 2008.
This is a lovely store with a great mix of fabrics and they have a light, airy classroom.
Call Chris and Jann on (02) 9918 7550 to reserve your place. I would love to see you there!

On Sunday 12 October, I will be teaching my Making Waves workshop at Midsomer Quilting at Chilcompton near Bath in the United Kingdom. From Warm Vibrations (pictured) to Grass, I incorporate freeform curved piecing in many of my quilts and I hope that some of my UK readers can join me to learn this versatile technique. Call or e-mail Midsomer Quilting to reserve your place.

While I am in that part of England, David and I will spend a few days exploring the Cotswolds and the West Country. We’ve taken in the sights of Salisbury, Glastonbury, Wells, Avebury, Stonehenge and Bath before but that was a while ago and this will be our first trip to the Cotswolds and Cheddar Gorge. Let me know if you have any recommendations for lowkey places to stay, pubs for the Laundry King and sights to see. We will have a car.
