Serendipity Studio Newsletter Subscriber Giveaway

February 28, 2010 | Filed Under Newsletter, Twelve by Twelve | Comments Off

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for my occasional Serendipity Studio Newsletter. I compiled a listing of all subscribers as at today’s date and gave the random number generator a whirl to select Vanessa from Australia as the winner of a copy of 500 Art Quilts and Jane from Brisbane as the winner of a copy of the new magazine Down Under Textiles.

By the way, Jane belongs to the challenge group Art Quilts Around the World who will soon by sharing their quilts on the theme of “Flora”. Jane’s group was inspired by the Twelve by Twelve Collaborative Art Quilt Project. And of course, Twelve by Twelve will be unveiling their blue, white and a dash of black “colourplay” quilts on 1 March (US time). Back to putting the finishing touches on my three contenders…

Glimpse of 500 Art Quilts

I’m hanging out by my mailbox waiting for my copy of 500 Art Quilts. In the meantime, Terri kindly sent me a photo of the page where my quilt appears:

I understand that the images in the book have been sympathetically arranged according to colour and style. I share page 151 with fellow Australian textile artist Alison Muir. (Other Australians whose work appears in the book are Dianne Firth, Beth Miller and Margery Goodall.) The quilt on the facing page is by Nelda Warkentin.

Remember, all subscribers to my newsletter go into a draw to receive a copy of 500 Art Quilts. Sign up today!

More than tickled pink

October 5, 2009 | Filed Under Newsletter, Technique:Finishing | 2 Comments

So I allocated a number to all my current newsletter subscribers, and everyone who has left an on-blog comment in recent days, and then used a random number generator to come up with the number - 78. I got goosebumps when I discovered that 78 means that Tickled Pink will be delivered to D*** who lives right here on the Central Coast. D*** has been an enthusastic student in some of my classes and I often bump into her at quilt exhibitions. She is also someone who has demonstrated supreme courage and resilience in her own encounter with breast cancer and I am more than tickled pink that my textile work is going to her:

PS: Here’s another photo of Tickled Pink showing the edges. I used the technique from my wholecloth finish tutorial which is ideal for smaller quilts and still shows off the quilting on the back. See my listing of Alternative Quilt Finishes for other tutorials.

Identifying my entry in the Australian Machine Quilters Association Show in Brisbane this weekend just got a little easier. It will be the art quilt Acacia Bloom with a second place shiny ribbon on it.
