This week didn’t quite go as expected and I woke up this morning without any textile sketch in progress or even an idea of what Week 29 would feature. Then I heard the cackling laugh of some kookaburras.
Instantly cheered, I knew it was time to capture this bird in cloth:
Last week I introduced brown into the palette of my weekly textile sketches for the first time. This is a good opportunity to add another predominantly brown work to the collection. Incorporating the turquoise blue markings of the kookaburaa wings also links back to colours used in some of my ocean/marine inspired pieces. The digital sketch on the iPad came together quickly.
The cloth version took a little longer. I used zig zag stiching in the background to imitate the kookaburra feathers. It also helped the soften our the multitude of seam lines:
