Week 28 of my weekly art project considers the intriguing crevasses of a banksia cone. Banksia integrifolia is endemic to the coast and my studio is surrounded by banksia trees. With the recent warm and wet weather, they have had a growth spurt and I have booked the Laundry King in to trim the tendrils so as to restore my studio view:
Look beyond the new growth and you will see the gnarly form of the cones and clumps:
I played around with some designs on my iPad and decided to pare this back to four simple lines:
The palette is intentionally low contrast but I look forward to experiment with different colours:

I enjoy seeing your weekly projects and hope to participate; meanwhile, I’m observing. What a fascinating and interesting cone from the banksia tree. Thanks for showing us this; your interpretation of the different things you see is an enlightening experience!
