It’s been a busy week but I am back on track and week 23 of my weekly art project (or week 8 for 2017) again celebrates gum blossoms. Look how glorious these orange blossoms are!
At 11am today, I posted an indicative design on Facebook and started my timer. Six hours later, with a couple of interuptions, I completed my piece. Small doesn’t necessarily mean quick. These photos show my process:
This week, I attempted an inset pieced square rather than a circle. I wasn’t happy with the results. In particular, the corners were not sharp, all the pieced edges got rugged and there was some shadowing with the chartreuse centre. To achieve the desired visual impact, I cut out a square of batting, wrapped it in fabric, pinned it to the top of the work and stitched through it. Appliqué trapunto if you like. A little oversize but so MUCH better!

I look forward to seeing YOUR weekly art project. New participants are welcome to join in at any time. Be sure to link back to your specific blog/social media post so that we can learn more about your inspiration and process.
