I am back in the studio and back at the sewing machine. It’s time to catch up on Week 11 of my weekly art project. After gray, wintery days in San Francisco, I’m craving some colour so this week’s work is based on the camera-shy eastern rosella.
You will see that the upper left corner is affected by some red dye running during steam pressing in the final stages of construction. Argh! All my hand-dyed fabrics go through a rigorous washing and long soaking process designed to avoid such bleeding. Clearly, some rogue has slipped through. I now have a batch of red fabrics that are receiving a repeat of the boiling water/12 hour soak treatment. If they don’t pass testing, they will be banished from my stash forever.
