Combine a glorious day with family visiting from overseas and it was time to go exploring. After discharging our civic duty and voting in the federal election (complete with sausage sizzle), we headed to the newly opened Gosford Classic Car Museum and then onto Mount Penang Gardens. The gardens are set in 8 hectares and are divided into 12 “rooms” with a emphasis on drought-tolerant plants. Even in the middle of winter, there was much to admire and inspire. From luminous, spiky bromeliads:
to other-worldly succulents:
and tightly-coiled banksias:
From natural sculptural forms of the bulbous bottle trees:
To the man-made Wondabyne Sculptures
It was fun to discover somewhere new less than 30 minutes from home. Next time I might take a sketch pad!
