While others may celebrate the winter solstice, my mid-year rituals and celebrations centre around the Sydney Quilt Show, a members’ exhibition presented by QuiltNSW. The show opens today at Glebe Island and I will be there. Please say hello if you see me!
Four of my works will be on display. Flying Colours: Blue Mallee Parrot (40x40cm) is part of the QuiltNSW Colour Collision challenge:
Prairie gets its first public outing. (Read more about the background to this work and how it came together in Watching Grass Grow.)
And since QuiltNSW modified the definition of quilt for the purposes of the art quilt category to include two-layered works, High Country Lupins #4 (78x81cm) is there too:
This work is made from luscious Oliver Twist Felt Trios. On Sunday afternoon during the Meet the Teacher program in the QuiltNSW exhibition area, I will be sharing more about the tactile delights of creating with felt. I also offer a workshop Creating with Felt.
The last piece is Dreamlines #8 which is part of the QuiltNSW hoop display showcasing a variety of techniques and styles that will greet visitors at the entrance to the Sydney Quilt Show. I made this piece to fit a 14in hoop but haven’t seen it mounted yet so that will be a surprise for me.
Speaking of delicious surprises, who doesn’t love to see Best of Show and the other prize winning quilts?! I’ve been working on the online gallery that will go live after the awards ceremony that starts at 1pm. Not long now!
