We arrived at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum before it was open. Still it was no hardship to kill 30 minutes in the adjoining Fenway parklands in the autumn sun.
We both really enjoyed the special exhibit Ornament & Illusion: Carlo Crevelli of Venice including St George Slaying the Dragon. The interactive Ornament & Illusion gives a good idea of the exhibition and has a great magnifying tool
The permanent collection in the main “palace” was a lot to take in and in dim light. I confess my attention wandered. No photography was permitted in the museum apart from the central courtyard:

For good measure, the day was balanced out by a tour of Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox and the oldest major league ball park in America.
